Job Purpose:
Due to internal promotions and growth the Ashbourne Day Nursery group has a position for a Senior Deputy Manager who will be responsible for supporting the Nursery Manager with the day-to-day management of the nursery and supervision of staff. This will involve ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, policies and procedures and working in partnership with the Nursery Manager and Directors to enable the effective running and administration of the business.
Successful candidates will responsible for promoting their vision and ethos to ensure that a child-centred, safe and stimulating environment is provided, meeting the needs of every individual within a group setting.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Supporting the Nursery Manager to develop and implement a proactive marketing plan and representing and promoting the nursery at relevant social and marketing events and regular parent’s evenings.
- Supporting the commercial success of the nursery by achieving and maintaining target occupancy levels.
- Liaising with the Nursery Manager to assist with the day-to-day operational and organisational management of the nursery in line with policies and procedures, safeguarding, Ofsted requirements, local authority guidance, health and safety and equal opportunities.
- Regular reporting to the Nursery Manager to ensure administrative records are maintained, including the nursery budget and monitoring of parent accounts.
- Working with the Nursery Manager to implement new Nursery policies.
- Assist the Nursery Manager to ensure effective staff recruitment procedures are in place and new team members are inducted.
- Work with the Nursery Manager to ensure that duties are delegated fairly and in an effective and timely manner.
- Supporting the management with staffing levels to ensure staff ratios maintained and sickness and absence is managed.
- Working with the Nursery Manager in regard to staff supervision, conducting regular assessments and audits, recognising training and development needs and making recommendations to support the team’s professional development and day-to-day practice.
- Be a positive role model able to develop positive relationships with staff, colleagues, parents, children and outside agencies.
- Ensuring that all aspects of the Statutory Framework for Early Years Foundation Stage and Welfare requirements are delivered to the highest standard.
- Working in partnership with Milton Keynes Council Early Years Department, local childcare / education providers, health providers and Sure Start children’s centres.
- Planning and preparing activities to develop all aspects of the child’s individual development in a stimulating environment.
- Liaising with staff and parents to ensure effective and positive communication within the nursery.
- Close liaison with parents to ensure they are regularly and effectively updated on their child’s progress.
- Ensuring confidentiality is maintained in the nursery.
- Key-holder responsibility and deputising for the Nursery Manager.
Key Skills & Experience
- Must have worked previously within a nursery at managerial level (ideally within a multi-agency and multi-disciplinary environment).
- Hold NNEB or BTEC National Diploma or NVQ level 3 / 4 in childcare (or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of Ofsted requirements (safeguarding children policies and procedures).
- Experience of implementing the Statutory Framework for Early Years Foundation Stage.
- Able to demonstrate ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload.
- Good planning and organisational.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work full-time (40 hour per week on rota).
- Agreeable and eligible to obtain Enhanced DBS Reference and able to provide original copies of required qualifications.
- Hold a full, valid UK or EU driver’s licence.
- A willingness to travel to other Nurseries in the Ashbourne Group would be desirable.
