Company jargon is awash with ways of positively describing organisational change and challenges with words such as transition, transformation, right-sizing, best and final offer – but what about our employees – often the descriptions used are far from positive….

As transition coaches we support many individuals at times of organisational change – for some of us when the ‘merry go round’ stops we finds ourselves either facing choices or changes we’re rather avoid – or sometimes facing redundancy.

Our transition coaching programmes are designed to fill in the gap, challenging the status quo and helping individuals to feel and think differently about the careers and choices they have.

The journey often begins by overcoming emotional barriers ‘where are we now?’ and ‘where do we want to be’?

Exploring personal and career options, for example:-

CV preparation, application forms and covering letters: Ensuring your CV is kept short and relevant – remember potential employers may not read past the first page!  Demonstrating career highlights – including facts and figures to accentuate and reinforce your achievements.

Maintaining a professional image throughout – speaking in the first person, not including acronyms (many are company-specific and are not recognised outside of your own organisation), avoiding the use of jargon, ensuring there are no date gaps and if there are explaining them!

Remember that your CV is your ‘voice’ it is your ‘sales tool’  and your ‘first foot in the door’, think about the role you are applying for, do your research and ensure that your CV and covering letter reflects not only you but the organisation and job role you are applying for.

Interview Skills and Practice: Undertaken in a ‘safe environment’ where learning can take place to ensure that the when the curtain raises and you’re on stage – you’re well versed and prepared.  We often undertake role play activities and recorded (video) sessions to enhance learning – from a personal perspective I didn’t realise how many time I could include ‘um’ in a sentence (Jannine)!

Job search support: Guidance on search tools, advertising and social media, personal branding networking and contacts

Communication and Listening Skills: Enhancing and perfecting your skills to ensure you get the most from your interviews.

Whether you’re faced with a challenge or just feeling like a change – transition and career coaching provides real, demonstrable and positive benefits – perhaps you’re…..
