We’re all familiar with the buzzword ‘off-shoring’ where many British industries shifted production to lower cost countries – but is there a new buzzword on the horizon ‘re-shoring’?

Airfix has recently announced it will re-shore the manufacture of its QuickBuild range to Sussex, seeing local production as part of its commercial strategy, having also brought back Humbrol paint facilities earlier in the year to the UK.  Pitching against other foreign suppliers they were successful based on costs and turnaround times.

Ramen Noodles production originally based in China however the UK Company behind the brand has brought its production back to Leeds.

Stoves Cookers believe that as a nation the UK is becoming more competitive and have recently launched a ‘made in Britain’ campaign, securing 200 new jobs in Merseyside. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-26235707

It seems that there is a growing trend for the repatriation of production and services to the UK following increased costs and reduced availability of labour in other countries such as China and India.

Another recent survey, conducted by ICM research, reported that a quarter of people canvassed (compared to December 2013) said they were seeing the effects of economic recovery – benefitting personally or in their house hold costs.
